P90X: Nutrition

Let me preface this by saying the following: I realize that most people view me as "skinny" and my own mind is in agreement. I do NOT feel like I need to loose weight, I am doing this primarily to offer strong moral support to my hubby who feels the opposite. Secondly, my nutritional habits have gotten really bad over the last couple of years and its a good opportunity to get back into eating better.

A significant portion of this Cult revolves around proper nutrition. The first phase of the "diet" is known as the fat shredder phase, limiting the amount of carbs. and fat that you eat and maximizing protein intake. I guess its similar to the early stages of an Atkins diet if you're looking for a comparison. I believe bodybuilders do a similar thing prior to competition to reduce their bodyfat%.

According to the little booklet a full 50% of daily caloric intake must come from protein while fat and carbs. take up the other 50%. In my case, on an 1800 cal. diet, thats 225g of protein a day. A DAY!!!

It's disgusting!

I've not been a vegetarian in YEARS, but I've always preferred meals that are heavier in vegetables / legumes / grains than meat. I've eaten so much meat in the past few days that it makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

Study has proven that eating smaller meals / snacks every few hours is better for an individual than feasting 3 times a day. Apparently it keeps the metabolism high and thus aids weight loss. This I already knew from my athletic teenage years but have gotten out of the habit. Now I'm back to it, but instead of snacking on things like fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables etc. I'm snacking on Jerky, Smoked Salmon, Shrimp and Protein Bars.

I feel so "HEAVY"...

I'm constantly eating and always full. The thought of food right now nauseates me most of the time.

Did I mention yet how disgusted I am with the amount of protein intake I have to deal with? The horrendous thing is I'm not even hitting the target of 225g a day. I'm lucky if I hit 100g. If I really buckle down I can get to 150g, maybe a little more. I'm having to consume protein drinks to even come close and we haven't even officially STARTED yet!

At some point we'll move into phase 2 of the diet where the carb:protein ratio comes a little closer together. I imagine that will happen for me a lot sooner than it will for the hubby, as there's just no way my body will be able to support a high protein diet for that long given how little weight I "need" to loose. We'll see though. Luckily, since I spent a lot of time as a teenager doing various athletic activities I "know" in a very basic sense what to fuel my body and how to listen to it.

All I have left to say is, can someone pass the Ducolax?...
